Failing to stop
When you are driving a vehicle and you do not stop at a stop sign or you run a red light this is classified under the Highway Traffic act as failing to stop. This traffic violation also includes rolling stops (also typically called the country stop). The fine for failing to stop is set at 90 dollars and three demerits.
Fighting the Ticket
If you choose to fight the traffic ticket than the only two defenses that you can argue is that you did in fact stop at the light or that the light changed colour after you entered the intersection. Usually you will have the most success fighting this type of traffic ticket by arguing the second defense. This defense is usually best when you are fighting this type of traffic ticket as the officer will need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were indeed in the intersection when the light was red.
